A loving speech to Uncle Rav,
Thank you all for being here to honor my Uncle Ravin
· Id like to remember him by sharing a few funny stories because we all know he was a very funny guy.
· When I was younger, he called me Gurpreet as you all know, and he did my whole life
· I remember one time he got a label maker, and he was so excited, he made me lots of labels with the name Gurpreet to put on all of my stuff
· Another funny story I remember was from Nathans birthday Uncle Rav, Ally and Nathan all tried to feed me pork and after I tried a little taste he’d go up to my mom and say I fed your child pork.
· Whenever we tried to take a family photo, we couldn’t get a nice one because his finger was always up his nose, or he was making a funny face at the camera. I realize now, it was just as weird as it was unique.
· Uncle Ravin was such a warm and giving person. He was also such an understanding person, he would always try to lighten the mood and make other people happy.
· When the nurses at the hospital told us that Uncle Ravin had just passed, my heart dropped. I sat silently for a second to process what had just happened. During that moment, all I heard was crying and screaming from everyone who was in the room and those who were on the phone. That will probably sit with me forever.
· Something I keep thinking about is how we went to Auntie Pet & Uncle Paul’s house on Christmas eve. I got there a bit late, and Nathan, Ally and Uncle Rav were leaving. I said “hi-bye” to them and when I tried to hug Uncle Rav, he said “nope I’m gonna see you tomorrow. “ For some odd reason, I can’t seem to get those words out my head.
· I wish I could have spent more time with him, and I wish I had treasured the moments I saw him or spent with him more. I wish I could run up to him now, give him a big hug and tell him how much I love him. Everywhere I go or whatever I do he will be deep in my heart and will be missed dearly by us all.
· I have accepted that Uncle Ravin had passed on, but I still haven’t realized that I will never see him again or be in his presence. Every Christmas, every Thanksgiving, Every Birthday he won’t be there. He won’t ever tell another funny joke, make a face or be my cool Uncle ever again and now all I can do is remember all the great times I had with him.
· Uncle Ravin was such a kind, generous, and important person to me, and probably to all of you.
I love you, Uncle Rav and I will miss you forever.

My loving speech of Rav,
I would like to acknowledge everyone who has offered their love, support, time, food, kind words and simply checking in on how we are coping.
You know...today is a day I never thought would come. In fact, I have never in my right mind ever imagined this would be a reality. I like to live each day as it is, dealing with what each minute brings to that day.
I try to live carefee and maybe not take life as serious as I should. You know... I just like to be in that moment and appreciate that person or whatever is happening and be present. Making those mental memories to have.
But now for the first time in my life, January 1st 2025 is now a day, that I feel I’m living and it never ends. Each day is one long day but my day has never ended.
I think back to the last day with Rav.
It was December25th. We as siblings, got together with the kids to celebrate. We decided to do afternoon with some food and open presents together.
It was great! We always have fun! We opened gifts, stockings, chowed down on sushi! Which was a first for our Christmas! Tommy wanted to keep some type of tradition, so he had made some goat curry and I'd bought roti.
We watched LeVar Burton and played trivia. Rav was goooood at trivia.
Ally joked we should sign her dad up and he agreed he’d win it all! I honestly though yeeeeeeees we really have to get him on that show this year!
Even without mom and dad, It felt good. I even said to him, this was fun! Im so glad you did this thank you! You kept up the tradition!
Rav was one in a million, very unique and an interesting character. He always liked to get in my head.
As a teenager, he off in university. I’d love when he came home. He would take me here or there. Bring me food while studying for exams.
Have deep talks, like... “Do you pray?, When your talking to God, what do you say? How do you say it?” He was Always trying to be in my head. One time he learned hypnosis! And he tried so hard, but it just didn’t work, so we tried it on my cousin Danny and it was so funny!
Rav was thoughful. When he had his first job at Subway each night he would always bring home cookies for me, and when he got his first paycheck, he took me to Square one and we went to the toy store. He bought me this light brown teddy bear with a white chest that said “my best friend”. I was so proud and excited that MY BROTHER got this for me! Like I WAS HIS BEST FRIEND! No one else...just me!
He was always my protector, always on my side. Always the one I could run too, call or text, he was always there.
If it was a sibling fight with Davin, Ravin was always on my side and would get right in there to defend his little sister no matter what. When Tommy came into the picture, well....Rav didn’t like him. In fact a few times he tried to talk me out being with Tommy.
He even offered up some names and tried to tell me to go to lunch with this one or that one! Then he put his hands up, looked at me with love in his eyes, tilted his head and said “Well, in my eyes no one will ever be good enough for MY sister, but hey...thats just me”!
Then he gave me that smile, and we laughed and hugged. In the end by time i got engaged, he soften up. He got to know Tommy. And he welcomed him with a new mindset and loving arms and became the best big brother to him.
Everyday he drives by honks his horn and waves and down the drive way we come for a quick chat. Really gonna miss that.
When we had our daughter. He followed the tradition. He got up early, didnt care to be late for work. Came by just to give her, her traditional 1st hair cut.
He did it with pride because it was his duty and he loved her! This is what it is, this is what I’ll do. He gave her his own pet name and he’d spoil her...just like he would always spoil me.
Well I can go on forever and ever with Rav memories but those were some present, past and always loved memories i wanted you to hear. With all that it shows just how special Ravin is/was. Please hold him in your heart and think of your special memories, share them with someone today so his memory will always live on.
I love you Rav Thank you for blessing us with a life with you.

A heartfelt Note from Dad to my son Ravin.
"Rav My heart aches as you depart, my beloved son. You’ve filled my days with pride, love, and joy beyond measure since you came into my life. Your loving words on every phone call and your tender concern for my well-being, especially when I’m unwell, are a constant source of comfort and strength. You are and were a treasure to our entire family—a guiding light and a pillar of kindness to your loving Mother, Brother Davin, and Sister Jennifer. You will still be regarded that way in our future life. Though the distance may grow, my love for you remains boundless, reaching wherever you go. May your path be blessed and know that a piece of me and your Mom always walks with you, our dear son Rav."
Eternal Blessings From Dad’s Aching Heart.

I went to Applewood Heights Secondary School with Ravin, and was in the French immersion program with him. I can't honestly remember Ravin ever being in a bad mood, or angry. When I think of him, I think of laughter, jokes and good-humoured teasing. I think of his ability to find the fun, and lighten the moods of everyone around him.
I had the opportunity to reconnect with him in 2018, and was delighted to rediscover the same fun person I knew from years before. I was also moved by his warmth and sincerity. He told me he was proud of me for "shining my little light" into the world through my work as a writer and that he could hear my voice in my words.
He saw the very best in others, and I feel privileged to have known him.

My deepest condolences to Ravin’s family, and all who held him close. Ravin’s personality was a magnet, he was the type of person that others immediately wanted to be around. He was one of my brother Barrington’s closest friends and confidante for nearly 40 years. I know that Barrington would be heading to the Doobay’s after he left my place every Christmas Eve to see Ravin’s family and the infamous cousins, who I finally had the pleasure of meeting only recently. Barrington was either heading to Rav’s, leaving Rav’s or at Rav’s – his home for Sunday Morning F1, Sunday Afternoon Football, Pay Per View, Game of Thrones and lots of other non-negotiables, that made life fun!
May you (and all those who celebrate his memory) find comfort in reflection upon the ways in which Ravin touched you with his remarkable spirit.

I had the pleasure of growing up alongside Ravin as a French Immersion student at Burnhamthorpe Public School in Mississauga. I remember that he loved a good challenge -- even if it meant his fingers would pay the price.
In Mrs. Ruff's Grade 2 class, I was positioned in the row in front of him, so I had a close view of his antics. One of my earliest memories is when he was determined to write with the shortest pencil he could. He do our lessons with it and then he would sharpen it right down until it was nothing but a nub. I was beyond bothered and exasperated. I would look back and ask why he was doing this. He gave my questions little energy...he just laughed. He did it because he thought it would be fun and funny. Years later, he was right. It was ridiculous for sure and a serious finger challenge, and it was definitely fun and funny :).
One of my last memories of Ravin took place in 2018. My Dad was ill and in his final months. Ravin asked for him and shared that one of his treasured memories was of seeing my Dad during a "Career Day" presentation back in our Grade 2 class. Ravin said it was one of if not the first time he saw a Black teacher. The impression stayed with him for a lifetime. Upon hearing that, I asked Ravin if he would be willing to put his thoughts into words so that I could share them with my Dad. Ravin didn't hesitate: he wrote his feelings which I read back to my Dad. Thanks to Ravin my Dad died knowing his life had meaning beyond his friends and family....his life also meant something to Ravin, a boy he did a short presentation to way back in the day.
I thanked Ravin then but now knowing, unbelievably, that he is no longer with us; I again thank and lift his name up for going above and beyond for me.
The bond we shared as young classmates will live on beyond his passing. I am so gutted that he's gone but I'm so grateful we, along with the rest of the class, were put together. Our connection is timeless and everlasting.
Ravin, wishing you eternal rest and peace. xo.

It is clear with all the comments here that Ravin left an impression on those he interacted with whether you just met him or had known him for awhile. Between his infectious smile and outgoing laugh, he could truly light up any room. It was great working with Ravin although for a limited time as he always brought a great perspective to the team and was a true asset. I will always cherish our trip to Montreal together and all the laughs and memories we had. I loved how Ravin challenged the status quo.

From lively conversations, to endless laughter, and the joy of watching our boys, Nate and Nick, grow up side by side on and off the ice, every moment shared with Rav was filled with warmth and energy. He had such a kind heart, always showing care and kindness to Nick, James and Victoria, which I will always remember with gratitude.
