Obituary of Sonia Chhabra

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sonia Chhabra, who left us peacefully on May 30th, 2025, at Etobicoke General Hospital, at the age of 76.

Beloved wife of the late Mohan Chhabra, Sonia is survived by her daughters, Neelam and Shafily. She was also a cherished sister to Mona and Rajesh, loving aunt to Divya, Devika, Simrit and Sid, and a wonderful friend to many within the community.

Sonia dedicated much of her career to her work as a cataloger at the Toronto Reference Library, where her love of books and knowledge touched the lives of many. Beyond her professional life, she was also an active member of the Toronto Lions Club where she helped organize and contribute to many worthy causes and was a recipient of their highest honour, the Melvin Jones Fellowship. Sonia was also known for her warmth, humour, generosity, and joyful spirit. She loved hosting lively gatherings with family and friends, gardening, preparing delicious meals and spending quiet moments reading and solving her favorite puzzles. An active participant in social and cultural activities within the community, Sonia brought people together and created lasting memories wherever she went.

To celebrate Sonia’s life, we will be hosting an intimate memorial gathering for her closest family and friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 3:00pm – 5:00pm at Lotus Funeral and Cremation Center, Etobicoke, Ontario.

She will be greatly missed and remembered with deep love by all those who knew her.
