Anila Mehta (nee Bhatt) passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 15th with her husband of 60 years by her side. Anila is survived by her husband, Purushottam, her son Mitesh and his wife Mary Helen, her son Minesh and her grandchildren Drew, Shanti and Uma.
She is survived by her brothers Dilip Bhatt (Archana) and Mahesh Bhatt. She is predeceased by her brother Narendra (Suryu) Bhatt.
Anila was born on August 8, 1941 in Bharuch India to Indravadan and Vimla Bhatt. She was the eldest of four children and the only girl. She had a happy upbringing in Baroda and Ahmedabad where she was educated. She married Purushottam on May 17, 1965 and soon had two sons over the next two years. Purushottam left for a master’s degree at Brigham Young University in 1969 and Anila was charged with raising the boys until they joined him in the U.S. in 1971. Fate allowed them to emigrate to Canada and then landed in Toronto on a cold winter day in December of 1971.
Anila spend the following years with the difficult task of looking after the house and raising two boys, who were here pride and joy. She was the always loving mother and grandmother to Drew, Shanti and Uma and was always willing to share stories of their successes. She was known by everyone around for her radiant smile and her happy demeanour. She was always kind, generous and a beautiful soul. She was devoted to her faith and family till the very end.
