Please share a memory of Steve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Ramtahal, who passed away
peacefully on September 1, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 74.
A funeral service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 3:00
pm, at Lotus Funeral and Cremation Centre Inc (121 City View Dr, Toronto, ON)
Steve was born in Trinidad and Tobago to Ramlal & Dolly Ramtahal on June 12, 1951. A
dedicated Machinist by trade, Steve was a true craftsman — a man who loved working with his
hands, whether restoring a classic car or building something from scratch around the house. His
passions for cars and home-building/DIY projects reflected his resourceful, independent nature
and attention to detail. He could fix an engine or rebuild a cabinet with the same care and
precision. Steve didn’t just do the job — he did it right.
Steve spent 7 years as a Senior Secondary Teacher, until he immigrated to Canada with his
family in 1989. Here he continued his passion of Machinist until retirement while carrying on his
Presbyterian faith, whose life was grounded in strong values and deep love for his family.
Those who knew him remember him as a hard-working, loyal, and strong-willed man —
someone who valued quality, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of a job well done. He led by
example, preferred doing over talking, and was always willing to lend his skills to help those he
cared about.
He is survived by his beloved wife Zalimoon of 52 years, his children Natasha, Rishi (wife
Laura), and Latisha, and his cherished grandchildren Kyle and Daniella. He also leaves behind
his brothers Ramnarine, Harrynarine, and Raj, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and
dear friends who were touched by his kindness and spirit. Steve was preceded in death by his
beautiful daughter Marsha, parents Ramlal & Dolly, sister Verna, brothers Narine and
Deonarine.
Steve's legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the many things he built — both with
his hands and in the hearts of those who loved him.
