In 1965, Tej took me to write the common entrance exam which was invigilated far from home. He dropped me off in the morning, took me for lunch at a relative’s place and brought me back for the second part of the exam.
The school I attended did not prepare students for the exam and Mr Mohabir, at my father’s request, registered me as a student at his school, where he was the headmaster.
I was lucky to pass the exam and it was an important turning point in my life.
Tej was a pupil teacher at that time and he spent a lot of time at our home where he chatted mostly with my father. He and my parents stayed in touch when they migrated and lived in Toronto.
I will always be grateful to Tej for this difference he made to my life. On behalf of my family , I offer my condolences to his wife and daughter.
