Phulmatie Bhagelu Obituary

A Life Remembered

Phulmatie Bhagelu, lovingly known to family and friends as Aunty Dad or Iris, was born on February 25, 1938, in Port Mourant, Guyana, to proud parents Gyan and Sagee, who have both passed on.

She grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and the values of kindness and family devotion. In time, she married her late husband Bownauth, and together they built a life rooted in respect, compassion, and togetherness.

After a lifetime in Bush Lot Village, Guyana, she moved to Toronto, Canada, in 2017, where she lived with her beloved niece Patsy (Datsy) Misir, daughter of her sister Phulo. She was surrounded by many loving relatives who made her feel deeply cared for and at home.

During her later years, Marissa, Patsy’s daughter, provided special care and comfort, showing Aunty Dad constant love, patience, and devotion — a true reflection of the kindness Aunty Dad gave throughout her own life.

Though she had no children, Aunty Dad was deeply loved by her many nieces and nephews, who regarded her as a guiding light, a source of wisdom, and a cherished family anchor.
