Sukdeb Datta, age 84, of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025. Born on January 5, 1941, in Kolkata, India, Sukdeb was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and friend whose quiet strength and enduring kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

An engineer by profession, Sukdeb earned his Master’s degree from University of Toronto after immigrating from India. He and his beloved wife, Alaka, built a life together in Toronto filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose. Their home was a place of warmth, wisdom, and hospitality.

Sukdeb was a founding member of the Vedanta Society of Toronto, where he dedicated his life to spiritual service and community outreach. A passionate devotee of Sri Sri  Ramakrishna, he gave generously of his time and energy to support the Vedanta Society’s mission and values. His commitment to volunteerism and spiritual growth touched countless lives.

He is survived by his wife Alaka, his daughter Sudeshna; his nephews: Sourabh and Shouvik; and his nieces: Saswati and Satavisha. He will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, Toronto Bengali diaspora and the Vedanta community.

A celebration of Sukdeb’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, at 7:00 AM (ET) at Lotus Funeral Home and Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of personal significance.

Sukdeb’s legacy of compassion, humility, and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
