Obituary of Dave Pouliot
David Foster Pouliot, 66, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully on November 9th in Toronto after a short battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held January 24th 2026 at 1050 Weston Road, upper floor, Toronto from 1-4 PM.
Dave was born in Montreal, Quebec to Armand and Gayle Pouliot (née Shoup) on December 5th, 1958. He grew up in northern Manitoba, in the communities of Grand Rapids and Cedar Lake. There, he developed a love of nature, fishing and the outdoors. He obtained a Bachelors in Geography from the University of Manitoba, a Bachelor of Laws from McGill University, and a Master of Laws from Queens University. He then settled in Toronto, Ontario, where he met his wife and had two sons. After more than a decade as a criminal defense lawyer, he retired from the profession to spend more time with his family. He became a transit operator for Greyhound Canada and drove buses professionally for the rest of his life, for Greyhound and then Mississauga Transit. He was active in the labour movement, and was shop steward, and then Treasurer for his local of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) for several years. He was passionate about worker's rights, anti-imperialism, and socialism. He was a loving father and husband, an avid reader, a practical joker, an athlete, and a philosopher. He loved dogs (particularly his dog Balto), the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Green Bay Packers, golf, driving his motorcycle, and cooking and eating food from cultures all over the world. He enjoyed blues music, a good cigar and a glass of Scotch, an action movie or a ghost story. He will be dearly missed.
David is survived by his wife Darlene Vloet, sons Alexander (Christina) and Gabriel, grandchildren Xavier and Diana, as well as, his siblings Michael (Gayle), Zoe (Shawn), William, and Julia, nieces Amy (Dale) and Abby, and grand-nephews Dominic and Kye.
