Obituary of Ilse van Helden
Please share a memory of Ilse to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ilse Van Helden on November 7, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Ilse was born in Oberhausen, Germany on December 2, 1929. Her life was rich with love, laughter and blessings, but also marked by challenges — enduring the hardships of WWII and the loss of her beloved husband, Jean Boucquillon, whom she outlived by 48 years. In the early 1950s, Ilse courageously immigrated to Montreal, Canada, with her sister Gerda. There, she met her husband Jean, who had also come to Canada from Belgium. Thanks to the two sisters, several of their siblings and descendants developed a deep connection with Canada — many eventually becoming proud Canadian citizens.
Ilse was an accomplished artist, a talented painter and potter. She loved people, art, and travel, always seeking new experiences and places.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, laughter, positivity, integrity, and strength. Even in difficult times, she never gave up on life and was always open to change when it meant a better path forward.
She will be fondly missed and lovingly remembered by:
Her children:
Karine Boucquillon and her husband Raymond Davidson
Michel Boucquillon and his late wife Donia Maaoui
Her grandchildren:
Leïla Netz-Boucquillon and her husband Vikas Sharma
Bertrand Netz-Boucquillon
Uma Boucquillon
Noa Boucquillon
Her great-grandchildren:
Kian and Kiara Boucquillon-Sharma
As well as by her extended family and dear friends
