Obituary of Muoi Tran
Please share a memory of Muoi to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In loving memory of Muoi Tran
Muoi Tran was born in Cho Lon, Vietnam on September 15, 1949. Her mom had 4 children before passing, and she has 5 other siblings. She taught Chinese & English in Vietnam to make a living. In 1984 she immigrated to Canada to join her brothers, father and 3 sisters, all in a small apartment on Dupont and Lansdowne. She quickly found work at Magna building automotive parts and made friends easily, as was her nature. She carpooled to Thornhill for work but after her first winter, she decided to learn how to drive instead. She got her license, bought a Mazda, and moved in with a friend on Ossington for parking.
She met her husband, Huyen, through friends. They got married in August 1990 and moved into their first shared home on Radwinter Dr, North Etobicoke in 1991.
Her only child, Cathy, was born in 1994. They moved to their present Central Etobicoke home in 1998. Her step-daughter, Nancy, moved in with them in 2001. After 20 years, she stopped working at Magna when they moved to Aurora. She went to culinary college where she got top marks. She then picked up odd-ends jobs, like at a friend’s laundromat, and Annette’s Donuts on Jane & Lawrence, until deciding to retire.
In April 2021, she was hospitalized suddenly and soon diagnosed with terminal bile duct cancer. She went through 4 types of chemotherapy, radiation therapies, and immunotherapy over 4 years and 7 months. It was her decision from the beginning to not tell anyone about her cancer; only her husband and daughter knew. Up until fall 2025, her quality of life was unchanged; you wouldn’t be able to tell that she was ill.
In her free time, she loved to grocery shop. She couldn’t resist a good deal. Her home was always well stocked with fresh vegetables, fruits, and Asian pantry staples. She never failed to have mangosteen jelly ready for when her two grandkids visited; no one knows where she can find that flavour. She was a great cook of both Chinese & Vietnamese cuisine, making whatever her daughter & husband liked that week.
On Saturday, November 29, she passed away peacefully at Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke.
Muoi was a private person who loved the comfort of her own home. Those who knew Muoi remember her for her will & strength, her caring heart, and the way she always put others before herself. Her kindness touched all who crossed her path, and her loss is deeply felt.
Her family would like to thank Humber River Hospital, Sunnybrook Hospital, Princess Margaret, Bayshore Clinic, and Dorothy Ley Hospice for the care she received. They’d like to also thank Lotus Funeral Home for her funeral arrangements.
She will live on in our memories, and in our photos. Please add your photos https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14asm-s2xQMJ0KUUiQgVlQHX_UnJZr2A_of Muoi to this album and share any memories you have of her in the Tribute Book below.
If you’d like to do something in her honour, she wished to have family & friends donate to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. She would’ve preferred this over flowers.
