REMEMBERING SUKHDEV PURI
A brilliant officer, a loving husband, a doting father and a great friend - that sums up the persona of the man my late husband Vinod and I knew as Dev Puri …. the officer known for his high sense of integrity, and uncompromising pursuit of truth. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have known Dev.
Talking to him was always so enriching and refreshing. He was very well read and very well informed. Also he had a tremendous sense of humour and a fascinating way with words which often laced the intellectual discussions he engaged you in.
His thought provoking and conscience pricking book on the plight of destitute women and children is not only a testimony to his commitment to his work and duty but it also shows the humane side of him - the amount of care and concern that he put into dealing with the minutest aspect of the complex social and economic realities of the unfortunate women and children who make up the subject matter of his extremely well researched and brilliantly written book, gives you an insight into this tough cop’s compassionate and caring nature. Dev you were a true Karma Yogi. Salutations to you.
And salutations to you as well Jyoti for standing by your man through thick and thin. You were a true soulmate to him. Jyoti I know you still haven’t come to terms with your loss. May God give you the strength to pick up the pieces and move on. Dev will always be remembered and missed by all those who knew him.

I have known Sukhdev tayaji for quite some time and in that short span, at least it seems short now, we grew fond of each other. We would often meet over a weekend lunch, which I keenly look forward to.
Spending some time with him always felt so easy & natural and unintentionally, I ended up learning a lot from him - about human values, ethics, relationships and a lot more. He was the one that drew me towards the habit of reading & away from television, which I'll always be grateful to him. I looked up to him and he was like my mentor in disguise.
One of my fondest memories of him is about one incredible and generous gesture, which I would like to keep private, but that spoke loudest about the kind of man he was. And one of my deepest regrets would be to not dropping him a message the other day, just to say hello, and getting this unfateful news just a couple days later, when it was too late.
Tayaji, you will always be loved, missed and respected! It was a huge honour to know you.

I had met my brother-in-law only once, just for few minutes at my nephew’s wedding in India, but I had heard a lot about him from my sister-in-law, how caring a husband, father & human being he was. Didi & Dev Bhai Sahib, we're to come & visit us here in BC. Before they could come & spend some time with us, Bhai Sahib left this world For heavenly abode. We do miss not meeting him. May God give peace to his soul!

Mr SukhdevJi a true professional, widely read about law and philosophy and the IPS who earned a place in the Hall of Fame of the career that he chose to glorify with his accomplishments ...who did not let my inexperience to impede our talk on profession of investigation that was our shared interest... ....
.
and who established a unique relationship of friends with me regardless of the divergence from me of his age and stature, and a relationship that was independent of the friendship that I had with his son in law ..................and who assured me a worried father of what the three year old twins would do to his study room at Bavdhan with his smile that "he didn't expect my children to behave like adults"....................and who just a few months ago, upon my losing both parents within ten months interval, soothed my analytical emotive mind in his very simply expressed words that "death is a natural process" . .....
.
....................... How true and how simple phenomenon yet so unpredictable and so sudden as his beating the final retreat after an accomplished life radiating dignity that he lived through with his trademark smile..... Sukhdev sir, I shall always miss you and you will live in our memories and will always inspire me.

We Bakshi's were fortunate to know and become close relatives of Puri Sahab.
He was a warm, affectionate and wonderful person, who always reached out to help those in need selflessly.
He always thought good for everyone.
He was a true Karma Yogi, the likes of which are very rarely born.
His departure has left a void which wont fill even with the passage of time

Mr. Puri's sudden departure in far away Canada was a big shock. He was a loyal and caring friend. Tough cop with tender heart, I could depend on his gentle presence and quiet support in any situation.
His going away has added to already shrinking circle of friends. I miss his phone calls, our discussions on current affairs and our readings; we shared books which was followed by detailed critique. I enjoyed his friendship and respected him for his integrity, sense of fairness and justice.
It was great to enjoy the affection and trust of the family. My prayers and thoughts with the family...Om Shanti

I had the honour of interacting with Mr. Puri at the Public Concern for Governance Trust in Mumbai, both as a law student and later as a lawyer. His legal acumen and commitment towards good governance inspired me to be a better lawyer and a better citizen. I feel privileged to have stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Puri at their Pune residence right before the pandemic hit. Mr. Puri, being an avid reader, told me that to excel in law, one has to master its jurisprudential essence. I will cherish those memories forever. Thank you Mrs. Puri for allowing me to share my thoughts on this platform.

Apart for being an upright, honest officer we will always remember Mr.Puri as a gentle(yet firm), affectionate smiling person who had an aura of positivity around him. He also always appreciated & encouraged like minded officers .
Our heartfelt condolences to ma’am & the family.

Remembering dear Tauji,
A man of few words and great wisdom. I’ve known him for a brief period, however the love, guidance and affection he had towards us was unfathomable. With me, he was always more of a friend and then my uncle in law. I would always cherish the memories i made with him and his laughter which came straight from his heart. He was a man of great conscience and taught everyone around him, to focus on good deeds and good karma. You’ll always be missed Tauji.
Om Shanti!

For many many years, tauji showed me and my brother, what my father(his brother)
would have done for us had he been alive. The respect, the ideals,
the principles, the wit, tauji had it all. He was a light which appeared
and remained for us throughout our lives. He stood like a rock for us.
He made sure that everyone around him is happy and content and gets what one is entitled for.
I reached out to him time and time again, and he was always there. He was a gem of a human being,
and lived by the code and eternal principles of dharma. He was a blessing for us and everyone
around him. He will always remain with us. Om Shanti, Tauji.
