Season after season, we heard your opponents’ cries
Now, today, you bring tears to your teammates’ eyes
Not in Penal; not in Toronto nor in Vancouver
Has there ever been, a mate and cricketer quite so popular
Most called you Barry, I preferred Ganoose
Others claimed you Big Bear; you responded similarly, whatever we choose
That cool easy going demeanor, you suffered fools gladly
You entertained us royally; though not if he were a bowler, sadly
With bat in hand, you had every bowler’s measure
What scoreboard pressure? You minced the biggest totals, with pleasure
A true allrounder, you could swing and seam too
I’ve seen you make the old ball talk, as if it were new
Sometimes behind the stumps, a proficient keeper for sure
Without the gloves in front the wicket, those hands were pure
Whether on the ground or struck hard in the air
In proximity to Big Bear, well no runs there
Six sixes in an over, none could achieve
That is, no one but Ganoose; you better believe!
That fateful day at King City, you had us in heaven
Forget six sixes; you hit seven in seven!
Runs galore, boundaries for fun
When you can hit ‘em like that, why bother to run
We all queued to bat before you came to the wicket
So, when we failed, you were our ‘get out of jail’ ticket
With you not here, we’ll now have to bat with sixteen
And even with that, our score may still be only somewhere ‘in-between’
On second thought, maybe we’ll just abort
For in trying to replace you, we’ll forever come up short
Tours to Trinidad, and Florida too
What about St Lucia, and the Guyana babu
We lived our dream together; danced at every mecca
Daren Sammy, Providence, Queen’s Park Oval and Brian Lara
By the time we join ya, you’ll be captaining the Angels XI up there
Won’t mind that at all, for you’ve got the skipper’s flair
One small request though, when you make your final selection
Please reserve a spot for me; the keeper’s position
Not that I’m better than you with the gloves on
Just that I never could quite catch without ‘em; not the way you’ve done
Close to the bat or on the boundary rope
Hit it close to Barry and you have no hope
When next I pack my kit, I’ll do so in your name
Playing without you, well it’ll never be the same
It’s not merely the runs, the wickets or the catches
It just you my brother; big persona and a heart that matches
A true friend to everyone you came to know
Every day at the park, for them you’d put on a show
Gone way way too soon brother! I’m reminded of a song
It goes like this…..Only The Good Die Young!
Rest In Peace Ganoose; we love you bro!
Your Toronto Overseas Masters mates

My Deepest condolences to the Ganase Family.
I had the pleasure of working with Barry, Brandon and Adam at CN for a couple years. He was a great man, loyal, patient and very understanding. I learned lot in the little time that I was there, he loved to tell the old time stories, talk about his family's experiences and his absolute love for cricket. As I have seen and read he was a great cricketer with broken records under his belt.
A great man gone too soon but will never be forgotten .
THANK YOU for all that you have done for us.
Rest in peace my friend.

On Behalf of Cambridge Community Cricket Club our condolence to the entire Ganase family. I had the pleasure and honour of playing cricket with and against Barry. Any bowler who knew him had some fears, cause they don’t know if they will get him out or just watch the sky in dismay. Off the field he is very social and just a joy to have conversation with. I will treasure the moments I had with him on our trip to Trinbago and Guyana. The fact of him showing me where he grew up in Trinidad and meeting of his brother Lolly. I feel so proud when he offered to fix 2 of my cricket bats, the joy he put to make it just right for my comfort will be cherish. I will always remember Barry a great soul he is. My the lord keep receive him as an angel. We will all miss you Barry.

It’s hard to find the words to even begin to describe how it feels to lose someone as special as Barry. Our hearts go out to Kim, the boys, and their families in these trying times. Although it is difficult to express how deeply painful it is that he is no longer here with us, we will try to keep his memory alive through all the beautiful memories we have with him.
Barry was a loving guy who attracted friends, family, and even animals with his good & positive vibes. He was loyal, playful, and the most kind person we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Barry was the type of guy that you could call day or night and he would be there - no matter what and no questions asked.
After Rammy’s heart surgery, Barry would show up at our house as soon as our grass grew more than an inch. Anyone who knows Barry knows that he took immense pride in his lawn and garden. It just so happens that one day we came home and saw a sign that we had won a curb appeal award for our yard...that was all because of Barry and his green thumb.
There are so many memories of who Barry was on the cricket field and all the countless car rides we took up to those games with Shirley’s packed lunches in tow and blasting chutney music on the way. What we’ll cherish more than that is all the meals and conversations we shared with Barry at our kitchen table on a weekend, before his night shifts or at our Diwali celebrations. As soon as we got the broth or dumpling soup boiling, we’d call up Barry to swing by. Barry had “his spot” at our table, no one else was allowed to sit in his chair. We talked for hours about our kids, jobs, retirement dreams, and life. We’ll miss that most.
Barry was a loving soul and part of our family. He was one in a million, a rare breed. There’s no replacing someone as genuine and caring as him. Barry will live in our hearts forever and we will always keep a spot at our table for him.
Rest In Peace, Berr.
From your loving brother & sister - Rammy and Shirley

The last time Uncle daddy and I spoke, he had given me directions on when to put the peat moss, and the fertilizer and the grass seed, we concluded that conversation with " just come out to Saskatchewan for a visit " . I guess we missed that opportunity, for my family to reciprocate the kindness you and auntie Kim have always shown us.
I will be forever grateful for all that you have done for your sister Indra and her family when we first moved to Canada, from helping us find, clean and furnish our new place to always lending an ear to your sister whenever needed. Mom always said "he is such a good boy." I will always remember your smile, the feel of your big giant hugs, the moments of pure laughter, singing, dancing to tassa in your dress , the enjoyment of you cooking your famous wings for our memorable cousin gatherings and always being so accepting of all of us, even with our flaws.
I hope you are sitting up there in your almond tree looking down at us, be sure to pelt us with those green almonds whenever you need to get our attention.
Rest easy uncle Daddy, there will be no other like you. thank you for the amazing memories, until we see again. Love you always and forever from your sister Indra, Kelvin and the Dookhoo/ Chegus crew ( Shauna and Mel)

Duce and I played against Barry while on tour an we also had the pleasure of playing with him with the Overseas touring team. I also had the displeasure of giving him out LBW and even though he was displeased at the decision he was never angry with me. I guess that's why he was fondly referred to as a Gentle Giant. I know that just as he made a positive impression on us his cricket comrades, I'm certain that he did the same for all those who are dear and close to him. Rest in Peace my brother.

I met Barry on July 6th 1985 on the cricket field. We have played cricket together for the pass 36 years and have become family. I can’t think of anyone else who is as popular and well loved amongst all those that he has associated with. Even though he intimated the opposition with how hard and far he can hit a cricket ball, he was the most easy going friendly person off the field. Last year every game he came to he would provide sanitizer and masks for both teams. Just a simple example to demonstrate his caring giving nature. The stories are many. The only thing he loved more than cricket was his family, especially lately his grandkids
I will always remember his easy charming smile. My sincerest condolences to Kim and the rest of the family. Rest In Peace brother

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Ganase family. I worked with Barry for a long time on the nightshift.
We had many discussions over the years about all sorts of things from sports to work to food to family. We used to share lunches or Barry would bring in chicken, or I would bring in Roti's or my wife's homemade lasagna. One thing was for sure we really knew how to eat on nights. But when our chats turned about family I could see how proud he was about his three boys, his face would always light up. He was a true family man.
I will miss him dearly but I will never forget him .Barry is one man I can call a friend.
Until we meet again. Rest in Peace my friend

I had the privilege of hearing about Barry and his cricketing feats before meeting him. The picture I had painted of his personality was a distant in reality. Barry was so humble and calm that we became friends instantly. His passion for whatever he got engaged into was unparalleled to anyone else. His love for sport of cricket and then for his work. I could see spark in his eyes and smile on his face everytime he mentioned his wife Kim, his boys and especially his grand sons. Barry was a complete man who left us all so early. Uncle Barry, we are so heartbroken that you are no longer here with us. You’ve been someone so dear to our family for as long as I can remember and I don’t think we will ever accept that you’re gone.
We will always cherish all the wonderful memories and laughter we shared at our kitchen table. You always spoke with so much pride and happiness about your boys and lit up most when you talked about your grandkids - telling us funny and cute stories about what they were up to.
You were witty, kind, dedicated but most of all generous. I don’t think you ever showed up to our house empty handed. But more than that, you were generous with your time. You were a true friend to my dad, a loyal best friend. You would come over to our house to hang out on weekends but to also help us when we needed it most. We will never forget all the incredible things you’ve done for us.
Without fail, every time you got up to leave our house after hanging out you would say “Alrighty then, I’m heading out”. So for now we’ll say..alrighty then & we’ll see you later.
Love always, Nikita & Ria

I walked in to this house in a country that I have never been to, and with people I have never met and was welcomed with open arms by the whole family and Barry gave me a big hug welcoming me into the family. We then drank and talked hockey together. Every time I would come to visit he was always so welcoming and made sure I felt at home.

My Sincerest of condolences to Kim, the kids and the entire extended family.
I have known Bharat for approx. two (2) decades . We met at his famous hunting grounds as a cricketer, (King City). He was a fierce competitor on the cricket field, but a gentle giant off the field. We have had lots of battles on the cricket field in my days of playing competitively, of recent i have had the privilege of playing retirement cricket as we call it with Barry. i can surely attest to all of the accolades and sentiments shared by everyone of Barry's humanity and generosity. He would indeed give his shirt off his back to anyone that needs a helping hand.
May your soul Rest In Eternal Peace bro and may your family find comfort and solace during these heart wrenching days ahead.

As a child you notice a lot of things. Despite having lived in Trinidad for many years and not having spent a lot of time with Uncle Barry, I saw him as a man who may not have been abundantly rich but whose heart was prosperous with love and joy and he shared that love and joy freely. I saw a man who despite having a tough life, faced the trials and hardships that life placed before him with a fierce, enduring smile and held no grudges. He found pleasure and contentment in simplicity - the company of good friends and family, the excitement of competition, home cooked food, making people laugh and smile. He was the kind of person who was very easy to like and to love, you could melt into the warmth, safety and comfort of his hugs. He was my fun uncle - the uncle who was easy to talk and relate to. I wish I had spent more time with you uncle and I wish saying goodbye to you today was a dream. You left us way too soon but I know that your spiritual energy will only add goodness to this world. I love you uncle Barry.
