Please share a memory of Krishan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Krishan Sachdev was born in 1936 in Khairpur; in the Sindh Province of undivided India. He was one of five siblings. At the age of 11 – due to the partition of the subcontinent; he arrived in Delhi as a refugee and then settled in Gurgaon. His resilience, grit and strength earned him a degree in electrical engineering from Dayalbagh University in Agra and he became an Associate Member of the Institute of Engineering in India. Shortly thereafter, he married his life partner, Sneh Sachdev in 1965. Taking the bold step to emigrate to Canada for a better life for himself and his family – he arrived in Canada in 1967 and laid roots in the Greater Toronto Area. His resilience, grit and strength re-emerged moving homes 11 times, redoing some of his Engineering education at the University of Toronto in order to become a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, and after some time at Ontario Hydro he embarked on a career of over 30 years at the Toronto Transit Commission – where he retired as a Senior Electrical Engineer, being an instrumental part of the growth of the City’s subway system; designing the electrical lighting systems for their subway lines and stations. Calm, loving and devoted - he was also deeply spiritual, and dedicated to community work and volunteering was central to his life’s work. He volunteered for many years at our local hospital MacKenzie Health where he recently passed away. He was a pivotal member of the Arya Samaj Community and lent his technical expertise in the construction of the Vedic Cultural Centre in Markham designing their electrical lighting as well as serving as a Board Member for Arya Samaj Markham. Committed to his family, he facilitated the emigration of several members of his extended family to Canada including his sister, niece, nephew, sister-in-law and mother-in-law. He raised two children and four grandchildren and was a pillar of strength, love and support to his entire extended family. He is survived by his wife Sneh Sachdev, his children Eena Duggal and Sanjay Sachdev, his elder brother Prakash Sachdev and his grandchildren, Maya, Chand, Nikhil and Neel. He will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering warmth, contagious smile, and sense of humour. The outpour from his friends has been heart-filled and touching. He has been described as being a great and generous man with a golden heart, a noble soul and a model of humility and love for all - and we will miss him sorely. With sincere gratitude to his Doctors Danny Vesprini and Urban Emmenegger of Sunnybrook Odette Centre for leading his cancer treatments and extending his life for many years and Dr. Bryan Berger and team at the Palliative Care Centre at Mackenzie Health for cradling the end of his journey with compassion and love. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please be advised about the temporary limitation of funeral services in GTA, as per the following link: https://thebao.ca/registrars-directive-bao-additional-restrictions-for-bereavement-sector/ Our building will be able to accommodate the following under these guidelines set out by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) and Public Health.
