Obituary of Richard Norman Boughner

Richard Norman Boughner passed away at home, on June 14, 2022, Etobicoke, ON in his 83rd year.

Born in Edmonton, Canada.

Predeceased by his brother Arthur, parents Hilda and Clifford Boughner and companions Pinky, Toffee, Champagne, and Marbles.

Beloved husband of wife Irena (née Nowakowski) and adoring father of daughter Julia Boughner and her husband Nick Jones, and doting grandfather to Gabe.

Loving fan of cats Sparkles and Fooby.

Dear brother-in-law of Mark (deceased) and Barbara Nowakowski, and Wanda Nowakowska and Chris Adamson.

Much loved uncle of André Nowakowski and Katherine Gurney, Danielle Nowakowski and Alec Crawford, Alex Nowakowski and Laura Brailsford, Madeleine Adamson and Andy Sparrow, Sharon (née Boughner) and Tim Morrison, Mike and Maxine Morrison, Jess Morrison and Mark Welsh, Shauna Morrison and Wyatt Ferguson.

Much loved great-uncle of Scarlett and Coulter Nowakowski, Katarina Nowakowski, Olivia Tucker, Bennett and Finlay Crawford, Ben and Luc Morrison, and great-great uncle of Evan and Josie Welsh.

Also remembered by sister-in-law Signe Boughner, niece Susan Boughner, great-niece Kathryn and husband Clayton Hoffman and children Baeyen and Kenzyn.

Fondly remembered by friends in Canada, England and Poland.

 

Richard loved to travel, particularly in London and England.

He was an impassioned English teacher who cared deeply about his students and delighted in using theatre and drama to teach.

He served 30 years with the Etobicoke Board of Education. His first posting in Ontario was at New Toronto Secondary School, now Lakeshore Collegiate Institute. He also taught at Mimico High School, Thistletown Collegiate and Martingrove Collegiate.

He was an avid bridge player and an aficionado of musicals.

We are so grateful to our treasure Delia Velasco for her very generous care of Richard. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cyril Lacko for his extraordinary care over the past 25 years. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
