I met Karam through Rohan who spoke of his singing abilities along with playing musical instruments. I witnessed this amazing ability first hand on occasions such as fund raising to assist in life saving surgery, Valentine's Day, Rohan birthday etc. Karamchand was without a doubt a natural and incredibly talented person and that was only the musical part of him. I cannot forget the night after a fund raising he put his arm around my brother who was visiting from the Netherlands and sang for and to him in the parking lot. My brother always asks about him when we talk and deeply regrets his passing.
There was something about Karam, he was tall and in any group he stands out, but get closer and listen to him, the conversation, the responses, the respect and control with event in mind, one will surely walk away with something. For the few times I was in his presence I witnessed how he took a break with company, kept the time and motioned everyone back inside to continue. Karan was always respectful of the audience.
Rohan's recommendations of Karan to me in the past were confirmed in testimonials at the wake.
Karam spent and dedicated a huge part of his spare time using his gift, talents and abilities to spread joy, teach and mentor. Rohan's son is now a respected harmonium player and singer, all because of Karamchand's influence.
Karam was a disciplined person using his life for the smiles and happiness of others. With Karam's passing, many of us have lost a friend, teacher and a mentor. This world has lost a great son. His legacy and impact, I am sure will go on for a very long time in us, his friends, his students and families.
Rest in peace my friend for you have switched on lights everywhere you sang.

As Karam's manager for several years, I have nothing but positive memories of his dedication and support for our team. He was a personable, caring, and responsible individual who consistently put forth his best effort. Radhey Radhey,
I will always remember Uncle Karan’s kind and gentle nature. As a little boy I used to be nervous before my music class’s recitals. Uncle Karan always made sure to comfort and assure me that everything was going to be ok. He would play the keybord and I would sing with my harmonium. Those are tender memories I will have for the rest of my life. Thank you Uncle Karan, and may Shri Radha Krishna continue to be with you.
Radhey Radhey.

I was blessed when I met KARAMCHAND Persaud In 1977. This was the start of a friendship which lasted 46 years. I will forever cherish the memories.
KARAMCHAND has presence. One knows when he arrives. He exudes joy. Somehow all will be well. He had a low tolerance for disrespect. He will, in his calm soft spoken tones, and that look, correct one whenever it is appropriate.
He was very generous. As a teenager, he travelled miles via a hire car, walked a quarter of a mile with a harmonium on his shoulders, and came to La Jalousie Estate, to play the harmonium for our yagna. I never paid him.
He was a fantastic teacher. Ramesh, a childhood friend, asked me if Karamchand can teach him to play the harmonium. We rode ONE bicycle and went to Anna Catherina. I did not know the music or the words of any bhajan. Yet, I decided I will learn. KARAMCHAND taught us. One of the first Bhajan was Jai Bhola Bhandhari. Ramesh sang this at La Jalousie Estate Kirtan group first public appearance. I played the harmonium. The next singer said to me “Bhaita stay and play for me”. After only learning ONE bhajan, strangers were asking me to play for them. I was the leader of our Kirtan group. That speaks volume of KARAMCHAND’s teaching skills. We never paid him.
His calm and profound confidence transcends to everyone in his company. At Saints Stanislaus College when he heard we wanted to host a concert, he shrugged his shoulders, calmly looked me straight in the eyes, and told me it will be done. It was a resounding success.
Let’s appreciate KARAMCHAND’s talent in Guyana. He will be playing an inferior harmonium, may have a drummer with varying degrees of skill, yet, once he starts singing, the place is transformed into a happy place. This is not restricted to Hindu religious events. I witnessed him pick up a guitar in a church and accompanied the hymns. One Friday night at a wedding in La Jalousie Estate, there was a blackout. Someone handed KARAMCHAND a harmonium and the rest is history. At the Melody Kings final in Guyana, they created a special award for him.
In 1989, KARAMCHAND visited me by my brother in New York City. KARAMCHAND saw my niece small plaything piano. He played the Guyana National Anthem on it. His cousin immediately left and returned with a Casio. I have that VHS cassette of several hours of oldies.
KARAMCHAND is not influenced by the size of the crowd, the prestige of the attendees or the type of occasion. At my request, he has appeared at major birthdays, weddings or wedding anniversaries, wakes and funerals. In 2005, he went and dazzled North Carolina for my brother’s 45th birthday. My birthday will never be the same again. Whether there were 10 or 50 of us, Karam will perform.
I have always declared that I know the best harmonium player and devotional singer on planet earth. His name is KARAMCHAND Persaud. Whatever name you can think off, I can’t get them to play for me. My brother Karam was always there for me. He is the best. My eldest son is a respected harmonium player and singer…has everything to do with KARAMCHAND.
Brothers and sisters, the KARAMCHAND you heard in Canada, had mikes, superior harmonium, talented musicians such as Derrick Jaikarran and Neil Surujdeo with him. The KARAMCHAND I know had presence and transforms any gathering without any supporting cast.
In 2007, based on KARAMCHAND’s request. We entered the dominoes world in Toronto. As a team and as individuals, we have won more than our fair share of tournaments.
Hindus believe in reincarnation. Hence, Rest In Peace is not appropriate. Jiva is “life”. Herein, we pray that Bhagwan grants this Jiva the best orientation.
Om Sadgati…Om Sadgati…Om Sadgati.

I met Karamchand in high school in Guyana. He was extremely polite, and genuinely dedicated to everything he participated in. We could always count on him to pitch in, take over activities. His singing was amazing.
Even though I wasn't in contact with him after high school, I always heard good things about him, and what a wonderful singer he was. Goodbye my friend! You have left wonderful memories behind.
My condolences to him family and friends. His karmic duties are completed, and he has moved onto a higher plane. Om Sadgati!

Shannie, Harry and family.
We share in your grief and offer our sincerest condolences to Indra, Tiya and the entire family. Words cannot express the depth of our sadness. We hope you, your daughter and the entire family can find some comfort in knowing that Karam will always be remembered.
I personally will always remember my cousin singing and playing his harmonium. As a little girl, I remembered how happy and excited Karam was when he won a singing competition in Guyana and he got to sing on a popular broadcasting station. I recalled my mother tuning in to that broadcasting station and we were all waiting to hear Karam sing. I still smile remembering how happy he was. Rest in peace Karam.

Profound condolences to the family. A friend and colleague at Zeeburg Secondary School. Remember him as a very unassuming, simple, and humble individual with that effervescent smile. Held in high esteem by all members of the teaching staff, administration and the students. He sang in the staff room and at cultural events at the school and uplifted our spirits. A man with a very quiet disposition who touched hearts far and wide. One of the best singers Guyana has produced, and a superb player of the dolak. And he had a deep love for the Dharma. Karamchand's life is testimony that in our own quiet ways we too can bring hope, love, and inspiration to others in this strange, mysterious, and beautiful world.

Picture this. Saints, a Roman Catholic school. 1980-81. We decided to do a concert. Band is expensive. Karam said “Josh, band is free. I will play the harmonium and sing. I will bring a respected and talented drummer with the big drums. It will cost you nothing”. Karam always called me Josh. He opened with Jagit “Tai he din”. Everyone paid one dollar to attend. We opened the lecture rooms and we had a concert. When Karam started singing, you can hear a pin drop. Our serious Chemistry teacher, told me, almost like he was in shock “That boy can sing”. We left a harmonium and a drum at Saints … all bought from those $1 at the concert.
