Obituary of Anima Bhatacharya

Anima Chowdhury was born on September 25, 1929, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Shyama Shankar and Jyotirmoyee Chowdhury. At three years old Anima lost her mother to pneumonia and was raised by her father and grandmother. She enjoyed attending Loretta Convent School where she excelled at sports and arts.

In 1948 Anima was married to Captain Satyadas Bhattacharya of the Indian Army (Ordnance Corps) and later a Charted accountant until his death in 2005.

After immigrating first to England in 1961, then to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1967, they finally settled in Willowdale in 1972 and later to Scarborough.

Anima worked at the Laura Secord Factory. She often said that she enjoyed tasting the fresh chocolate coming of the belt and would bring home boxes of chocolate for her family to enjoy. After retiring, Anima often said that she was happy not to go to work any longer and every day felt like it was Sunday. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.

Her faith in God was absolute. In 2007, she took initiation from the Vedanta Society of Toronto from Swami Swahanda. Throughout the day, her thoughts would gravitate to Sri Ramakrishna (Sri Sri Takur) and Sri Sarada Devi (Holy Mother).

On September 5, 2023, Anima passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family beside her. She is survived by daughter, Indrani and son, Anup. Also, her grandchildren, Anjali, Neala and Uday as well as great grandchildren, Isabella, Xavian and Pheonix.

Anima loved meeting and talking to people. She was loving to everyone and also cared for others' well-being.

Her wish in her last days was to go and be with Sri Ma (Holy Mother).
