Obituary of Aruna Duggal
Please share a memory of Aruna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Aruna Duggal on Wednesday September 27, 2023. She departed peacefully in her sleep at the Toronto General Hospital.
Aruna was born in India to Malik Ram Baveja and Vidya Vati on July 20, 1937. Malik Ram was in the Indian Diplomatic Corps (Foreign Service) from 1939 to 1965 and was assigned in Egypt from 1939 to 1955 through Aruna’s early childhood and teens. She was the second of five siblings, Usha, Aftab (d), Bushra, and Salman (d).
Aruna married Kailash Nath Duggal in 1957. They immigrated to Canada in 1968 and settled in Toronto. Aruna was a devoted wife to Kailash for 61 years until his passing in 2018.
She was a pillar, coach and stalwart cheerleader to her children Ajit (Arti), and Jyoti (Anil). Her three grandchildren Anjuli, Avi and Annika, received nothing but utter love from their dear Grandma. They know how precious they were to her and how proud she was of them.
Aruna was a true life long learner. Always curious, she was an ardent reader and never missed a day of the news. She spoke six languages fluently. Her career as a Cataloguer at the University Of Toronto, spanned 25 years.
Aruna retired in 1990 and devoted hundreds of hours to her community. She volunteered in her local schools as well as charities she had a connection with. Aruna also ran a Senior's club until Covid forced her to stop. She was an active Director for Emajjin Children’s Foundation until this past spring when her health began to wane.
