It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Sobanti (Data) Moonsee, aged 76, of Toronto, Canada, and Berbice, Guyana, who passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024. Born on March 16th, 1948, in Georgetown, she was the daughter of Brighmohan and Nandrani. Above all, Sobanti’s life was defined by her love for her family, her compassionate and caring nature, and her joyful and youthful spirit. Sobanti grew up in 64 Village, Berbice, Guyana. She is remembered as a very sweet and loving girl who cared for her family and her education. Sobanti grew up closely with her six other siblings. She attended New Market Primary School and progressed to Tagore High School. In 1962, she met Madan Kumar Moonsee, and instantly they fell in love. She was married on August 11th, 1963. She would go on to have six children, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, with these generations carrying on her memory.Sobanti had a passion for sewing and singing; she would often be invited to sing at local religious ceremonies. She loved to sing at gatherings, birthdays, and religious occasions. Her family was her greatest joy, and she dedicated herself to their care with unwavering devotion. Sobanti was full of life and love and was able to make an everlasting impression on anyone who met her. Known for her gentle spirit, boundless patience, and compassionate heart, she was a beacon of warmth.  She leaves behind a legacy of love and admiration for her and all her accomplishments throughout her life.She took pride in creating a welcoming home, where family and friends always felt embraced. Her home-cooked meals, thoughtful gestures, an heartfelt advice were cherished by all. She instilled values of kindness, resilience, and belief in her children and grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.Sobanti is lovingly remembered by her husband, Madan Kumar; her sister, Dollin; her children; Nirvana, Neeta (Dicky) Sunil (Romanie), Anil (Subreena), Sannita (Brodsie) Kristina (John); her grandchildren, Angeli, Kevin, Andrew, Matthew, Sabrina, Richard (Clarissa), Calvin, Johanna, Reuben (Jacqueline), and Natasha; and her great-grandchildren, Keyaan, Sia, Maya, Zarian, Emmeline, and many other relatives and friends. She is pre-deceased by her siblings; Paulo, Rudolph, Yankee, Sheila, and Shanta.A memorial service to celebrate Sobantie’s life will be held on July 19, 2024 from 6–9 p.m. at Lotus Funeral & Cremation Centre. Her funeral will be from 7-9 a.m. on July 20, 2024.

May Sobantie’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory forever be a blessing to us all.
