Obituary of Vernon Sherlock Kirpaul

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Vernon Sherlock Kirpaul on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the age of 83. Vernon was the beloved husband of Vashti Kirpaul and a proud father to his three children from his first marriage with Eva: Prudy (Luc), Mandy (John), and Sherlock (Urania). Vernon was also a devoted grandfather to Marcus (Jyzel), Matt (Shelley), Allyyssaa, Candice, Illanya, Sean-Michael, and River, and great-grandfather to Jasper, Johnathan, Asher, and Weston.

Born in Port Mourant, Guyana, to John Masi Kirpaul and Somintra Ramgoolam, Vernon shared a deep bond with his siblings Raymond (deceased), Yvonne, Bonnie, Maurice (deceased), Greta, Bonnetta (Dolly), Pamela (deceased), Errol, and Gerald. He graduated from Corentyne Guyanese High School and became a dedicated and beloved teacher. In 1971, Vernon and his family immigrated to Ontario, Canada, where he achieved a successful career as an accountant. He will always be remembered for his mischievous wit and sense of humour. Vernon had a passion for reading, and his vast knowledge of life’s journey made him a valuable source of advice for family and friends.

Vernon’s unwavering faith in God became a cornerstone of his life. In later years, he demonstrated incredible strength and resilience, overcoming cancer and maintaining a rigorous routine of weekly dialysis. Despite this personal battle, his daily walks and exercise kept him motivated. He never complained despite the extent of his pain. Vernon passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.
