Obituary of Ghokalenarine Sowkey

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of the patriarch to our family Mr.
Ghokalenarine Sowkey, lovingly known as Ghokes, who left us on Saturday October 19 th 2024. Born on
May 18 th 1933 in Fyrish, Corentyne, Berbice & formally of Albouystown, Georgetown, Guyana Toronto,
Canada.
He is the son to the late Doman & Rajani Sowkey. Son-in Law to the late Milkman Finey Sookdeo.
Brother to the late: Nicknarine, Suenarine & Seerojanie
Husband to the late Danesree Sookdeo-Sowkey a/k Pearly, Khedrie Persaud a/k Golin & Drupattie

Uncle to: Clement, Ann, Kenneth, Rudolph, Robert, Pam, Leila, Chandra, Boogee, Debbie and the late:
Edward & Basil.
Sowkey made friends very easily and made everyone feel like family, anyone he met felt valued and
important. His laughter was infectious, and his jokes had a way of melting hearts, reminding us all to find
joy in the little things. He was a kind, gentle, full of life man that till his last days was independent and
making sure to get his bigan choka and mango curry at Bara Hut.
He was a constant source of support to anyone who needed it, friends, family, grandchildren – it did not
matter the relation – he was always willing to extend a helping hand and his selflessness knew no
bounds.
His legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known
him. It will carry on with his children: Andrew, Peter, Savita, Paul, Michael, Richard, David, Philip, Anita
and the late: Anthony, Danny & Shanta
His family grew with the following daughter and son in-laws whom he saw as his own: Arlene, Julie,
Loretta, Lynn, Akeeza, Raymond, Vida, Suresh, Patricia &, Kuneta
He was the very proud grandfather to: Shivanie, Kevin, Krista, Stefan, Paul Jr, Lawrence, Sabrina,
Roden, Rodel, Rickford, Anthony, Anil, Joshua, Amar, Anesia, Alexander, William, Wanita, Aaron, Davon,
Nicole, Melissa, Alysia, Alana, Jennifer & Michael.
Grandfather in-law to: Ravi, Rabina, Mohanie, Buddy, Preya & Vanessa.
He was also very privileged to have seen his great-grandchildren: Chakradhar, Hari Siva, Zayden, Jayce,
Jaysean, Madelyn Rose, John Michael, Prince Kyle, Vishnu, Aadhya, Varun, Arun, Pawan, Angelina, Evie
& Tristan.
As we say goodbye to this extraordinary soul, we invite everyone who loved Sowkey / “Ghokes” to come
share their memories and celebrate the beautiful life he lived. His spirit will forever shine brightly in our
hearts.
