Obituary of John Mootoo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Mootoo, a beloved
husband, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. John was born on November 3, 1955,
in Newtown, Enmore, East Coast Demerara Guyana. John was the youngest son of
the late Daniel and Elizabeth Mootoo. Siblings of Muriel, Jake, Rose, Ivy, Joan,
Philomena Mootoo, the late Ivan Veeran and Jerry Kandeen.
He peacefully passed away in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Thursday, December
5, 2024, at 6:05 PM.

In 1990, John embarked on a new chapter of life in Toronto, where he began his
work life at Mikasa and moved on to continue building his career at IPEX,
dedicating over 20 years of hard work and camaraderie to the company. Beyond
his professional life, John was a man of many passions. He was an avid dominoes
player, whose love for the game was matched only by his enthusiasm for sports.
Among all sports, baseball held a special place in his heart, and he was a proud
and loyal fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.

John's infectious humor and fun-loving nature were his hallmarks. He had an
extraordinary ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him, whether
through a quick-witted remark or an uplifting story. Above all, John cherished his
family, had a deep love and unwavering commitment to his wife, loved his nieces
and nephews like his own, always placing them all at the center of his life.
John will be deeply missed and survived by his wife Ofeila, sisters Muriel, Rose,
Ivy, Joan, Philomena, brother Jake, brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews
and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and
passion will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
