Obituary of Kaushalya Chincholi
Please share a memory of Kaushalya to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kaushalya Chincholi (nee Sankangoudar), was the heart of our family—a woman of infinite kindness, quiet strength, and boundless love. It is with profound sadness that we announce her passing on December 26, 2024 at the age of 78. Our mom fought hard to stay with us through a long and courageous battle with dementia; she is now at rest.
She will be forever missed by our dad- her loving husband of 54 years- Basavaraj, her sisters Shanta Yeli and Sarojini Moogi, and by us, her children, Suchitra and Sachin. She was the best Amma to Ashwin, Dylan, Kiran, and Anjali, and a cherished mother-in-law to Josh and Nancy. Known affectionately as “Foreign Amma” to our extended family in Dharwad, Hubli, Gadag and Bangalore, she held a special place in the hearts of everyone she met.
Mom lived a life of extraordinary example: selflessness, inclusion, charity, and an unshakable faith in the Veerashaiva teachings that guided her. She welcomed everyone with open arms and always sought ways to connect with and help others. Her family and friends were her greatest joy, and she had a unique way of making every person feel taken care of, valued, and loved.
We will miss her uncontainable giggling that caused her whole body to shake, the dosas served hot straight from the pan, the holige no one could replicate, and the Gouri poojas each September, the “Hello?” that always caught you sneaking in, the mighty feminist railing against patriarchal norms, her tireless work ethic, the immense pride in our accomplishments, the strength to do what was needed, the fierce protective solidarity for her sisters, family, and friends.
Mom is predeceased by her dear parents, Shivanagouda and Parvati Sankangoudar, and her adored brother, Ramesh Sankangoudar. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited with them now, embraced in eternal peace.
Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported her well-being in recent years, including the nurses, PSWs, medical specialists and the ever compassionate Dr. Sylvia Lee.
With respect and mindfulness for her quiet strength and humility, a memorial service will not be held. We thank everyone for allowing us to grieve privately and are deeply appreciative of the love and support from friends, colleagues, neighbors, and well-wishers who will remember Kaushalya with fondness and warmth.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Indus Community Services, CARE Canada, or the SickKids Foundation.
Mom, thank you for giving us everything—your love, your lessons, and your laughter. We will carry your light, kindness, and generosity with us always. We are all better for having been in your presence. We love you.
