Obituary of Ernest Raleigh Harricharrandas
Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ernest Raleigh Harricharrandas on Sunday, March 29th, 2020. He passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home, in the presence of his wife, two children, and grandson, after a long and fulfilling life of 74 years.
Ernest was a devoted husband of 45 years to his wife, Veda. He was also a doting father to his son and daughter Shandy and Shelini, father in law of Venita, and a loving grandfather to his grandson Anand.
He was born in 1946, in Guyana to Harricharran Das & Diawantie, and is survived by brothers Bodo and Nelo, and sisters Diana and Sandra.
Education was immensely important to Ernest, and he knew from his youth that he wanted to be an Engineer. He studied at the University of the West Indies (Trinidad) to become a Civil Engineer, and when he came to Canada in 1975, took courses at the University of Toronto to be registered as a Civil Engineer in Ontario, as well as other provinces across Canada. His career, and being able to help new Engineers in the field was where he found his purpose and great happiness and fulfillment.
He will always be remembered as a gentle soul, who worked extremely hard, and cherished his time with family. His quiet smile, wise words, breadth of knowledge, and comforting presence in our lives was deeply felt and he will be profoundly missed.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, a private service followed by cremation was held with immediate family on March 31, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, or for anyone who feels so inclined, feel free to make a donation to Ernest’s Oncologist’s Research Fund at Sunnybrook Hospital’s Cancer Centre. The reason this fund was chosen was because Dr. Urban Emmenegger cared for Ernest over the last 6 years and he chose to be part of many of his clinical trials, prolonging his life, and ensuring a good quality of life.
