Please share a memory of Pearl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pearl Sooknanan was born on July 21, 1933, to Sonia and Goolcharan in Las Lomas, Trinidad. She married on June 4, 1950, to Sooknanan Ramcharan, affectionally referred to as “Honey”. Together, they were a powerhouse couple known by everyone in Trinidad as “HoneyPearl” and she was proudly called Mrs. Honey. They were entrepreneurs who ran a successful supermarket and bar. She was the mother of nine children but was “Mother Pearl” to everyone she met. From a youthful age, Pearl was an ambitious person. She learned to sew, cook, bake, and helped to make clothes and prepare food for her family and many in the village. She would not be held back by expectations of women of her era. She wore pants when women were expected to wear skirts and dresses. She wanted to be able to take herself wherever she wanted to go so, at age 40, she learned to drive. She travelled to America and Canada on her own countless times to visit her children. On April 21, 2022, during a visit to Canada, Pearl passed away at her daughter’s home in Castlemore, Ontario. She died peacefully in the arms of two of her daughters and her grandson. She was 88 years old. Pearl was predeceased by her husband of 68 years and her son Rishi. She is survived by eight children, Deo, Chandra, Prakash, Ena, Shastri, Rudy, Ranu, and Shoba, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
