My Aunt and Uncle always made Christmas extraordinarily special for me growing up!!!
My best Christmases growing up were always spent at their house.I would sleep over at their house on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning my Aunt would have us eat what was in our stockings for “breakfast”. This would include: Christmasy foiled wrapped chocolates, some of them were made with rice crispy cereal, there were candy canes, clementines and cashew nuts. Then after we ate our”breakfast” from our stocking we could open gifts. But wait there was another trick! You had to “draw” and pick a number from a bag to see who would go first. More suspense!! It was hard waiting to see what was under the wrapping paper.
My Aunt would cook her turkey with her secret stuffing. She would make curry chicken, dal roti, chow mein, potato ball, bara and tamarind sauce, potato salad,. Rum cake etc..
There were so many treats: Danish butter cookies,Pot of Gold and After Eight Chocolates etc.
There was alway a Little Baby Duck champagne to toast with .
After a humongous meal we would watch old Indian movies or classic black and white Christmas movies after all the food.I love your taste in music Cha Cha: Hindi and Reggae and Calypso too. They always stayed with me!! And I share that love of music and classic movies with my children.
Thanks Cha Cha and Chachie for all the love, care and support you gave me growing up when I really needed it the most! Thanks is not enough for all that you have done for me and my family!!
I will remember you all by continuing these traditions with my family.
Your love and support and kindness that you have both given me will live on through me and my family. Love You Both!
