Eulogy for Baldev Gupta:
Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Baldev Gupta, a man whose kindness, love, and vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. Baldev’s journey began in Nairobi, where he embarked on a path of selflessness from a young age, working tirelessly to support his family of eight siblings after completing high school. His dedication and sense of responsibility were evident from the start, laying the foundation for a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Baldev’s zest for life was infectious, and his love for the latest gadgets reflected his curious and adventurous nature. I still remember those joyful drives in his car during the 1950s, when I was just a child, and the unforgettable trips to Kenya National Park. His enthusiasm for exploration knew no bounds, and he was always eager to share his adventures with those around him.
In the early 1960s, we were witnesses to Baldev’s romantic wedding, a beautiful testament to his unwavering commitment to love and family. His move to Nottingham in the mid-60s marked the beginning of a new chapter, yet his bond with family remained steadfast. Despite the miles between us, Baldev’s warm embrace and infectious laughter welcomed us during our frequent visits and family gatherings.
In 1977, Baldev’s generosity and love shone brightly as he played a pivotal role in organizing my wedding, ensuring that it was a day filled with joy and celebration for all 300 guests. His selflessness and willingness to go above and beyond for his loved ones are a testament to the depth of his character and the love he held for his family and friends.
As the years passed, our journeys took us across continents, yet the bonds of family remained unbreakable. Visits to Canada brought us closer together, allowing us to share in the joy of his son Annet’s wedding and the cherished moments spent in each other’s company. Whether in Canada, Mumbai, London, or Nottingham, Baldev’s presence radiated warmth and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Today, as we bid farewell to Baldev, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the love, laughter, and memories he shared with us. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy will continue to inspire us all. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his spirit will forever live on in our hearts, a beacon of light guiding us through life’s journey. Baldev will be deeply missed but never forgotten, his memory forever cherished with great fondness and grace.
Rest in peace, dear Baldev. Your love will live on in our hearts, today and always.
