Obituary of Baldev Raj Gupta
The 25th January 1936, in the town of Eldoret, Kenya, East Africa would welcome a young child by the name of Baldev Raj Gupta, the 3rd sibling in a line of 8 total. Baldev would go on to spend the majority of his young life in Kenya, leaving school in his early teens to help support the running of house & family.
He first started in the post office, would achieve high success in the rankings and eventually took his talents to the Telephone Exchange. During these times in Nairobi, during one fateful Saturday, he came across the purchase of the Saturday national newspaper, a random act not normal of his usual routine on the way to work. Nearing the end of the issue, he came across the photo of one Saturday Morning Girl that happened to have one Dilshad Ladha posing in a modest blouse and skirt! Baldev had met face to newsprint with his destiny and a short two years later... The happy couple defied cultural odds and tied the knot.
The whirlwind did not stop there, it had only just begun as Dilshad, now known affectionately as Reeta had moved on to England to complete her studies in Nursing and begin her career, Baldev soon to follow. Nottingham is where they called home and after the birth of 2 sons, the air of adventure came calling again as the young family headed over to the US and eventually settled in Canada, Toronto specifically.
From 1979 until just shy of this present moment, Baldev Raj Gupta struck smiles and an acceptance of love & admiration into the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. From family to friends to random connections, if you had the honour of hearing about an adventure, a shayari, a joke or having your palms read... Then you had the honour of aligning your stars with those of one Baldev Raj Gupta. Husband of one, father to two and angel to the masses of all others, privileged to have crossed his path, the universe over.
