t is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lakisha Antonette Christian, a devoted mother of one, beloved daughter, cherished sister, and loyal friend. Lakisha was born on March 22, 1978, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, after an eight-month battle with cancer.
Lakisha’s life was a testament to strength, resilience, and unwavering love. Through every challenge, she remained steadfast in her courage, faith, and belief in the beauty of life, inspiring those around her with her determination and grace. She was fearless ,adventurous and a daredevil.
Lakisha began her career at Mackenzie Health (formerly York Central) in July 2003 on the General Surgery Unit, where she dedicated more than 20 years of her life as a surgical nurse. She was deeply respected by her colleagues for her unparalleled work ethic, leadership, and mentorship. Lakisha’s passion for nursing shone brightly in everything she did, whether mentoring students, sharing her extensive knowledge, or supporting her peers with kindness and compassion. Her legacy in the nursing community is one of excellence and deep care.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lakisha’s vibrant spirit enriched the lives of everyone she encountered. She brought joy to coworkers during lunches, laughter to family gatherings, and unwavering support to her loved ones. Known for her fierce loyalty and steadfast values, Lakisha was never afraid to stand up for what and who she believed in.
Lakisha leaves behind her cherished son Shemiah , whose name she carried with pride. She is deeply mourned by her mother, Rita Nissa McLean, and her beloved siblings: Garry Smith; Robin-Gay Christian-Mendez and brother-in-law, Rayon Mendez; Jermaine Christian; Shakeria Christian; Teraisha Christian; and Tefayne Christian-Brown. She also leaves her treasured nieces and nephews: Rayne and Reece Mendez, and Maleea and Maleeka, along with countless other family members and friends who loved her dearly. And Selena her best friend, has been by her side from the beginning of her journey to her last breath. Lakisha will be in good hands as her father, Anthony Christian will be waiting for his cherished daughter.
Lakisha was a remarkable woman who exemplified compassion, strength, and selflessness. She was not only a devoted family member but also a true friend and an angel to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Rest in peace, Lakisha. Your light will shine forever.
